WHOLESALE CIGARETTES
How Would The World Be If Cigarettes Didn't Exist?
Naive question - anyone would dismiss this as being a very generic question, one of plain curiosity and of no practical use. But how would it really be, even if it were to exist only in a utopian world where there are no things such as Marlboro, Camel or the host of those internet-imported cheap cigarettes sold as discount cigarettes. Or, how would the absence of the big-brother brands such as Winston, Virginia Slims, Salem, Camel, Basic, Menthol, Regular, Lights, etc. impact the smokers?
There would still be tobacco and users. Man has been innovative in employing all natural things into his use; no matter if it's wild or mild, tobacco is one amongst them. Think about alcohol, How did man know about it? Alcohol didn't even exist in its consumable form, not even today, and man learned about distillation to get alcohol. But, tobacco was available naturally, processed or not, Smoking is only a manifestation of its different uses.
Can you think of a world without cigarettes even in the present day? What would have happened to all those smokers if cigarettes were to be banished from, say, the USA? Manufacturers of Marlboro, Camel, Winston, Virginia Slims, Salem, Menthol, and many other brands would not lose sleep for long over this decision. They would, however, shift to neighboring or greener countries to continue their manufacturing.
Just a slap of higher tax on cigarettes has partly done this and the discounted cigarettes we see that are sold as cheap cigarettes online are surrogate methods of marketing their produce, albeit at cheaper prices. This means, that hardcore smokers can't stand the shortage of cigarettes, let alone no cigarettes at all, whereas, now, they must be pretty comfortable smoking the same old cigarettes at discount prices.
This brings us back to the original question, how would the world be, had there been no cigarettes at all? Plainly, there would be other forms of tobacco consumption, more likely in unprocessed and crude forms, and it would do more harm than good. Haven't we seen the Asian villagers suffering from mouth cancers because of tobacco chewing habits in addition to risking all other dangers that cigarette smokers risk?
This is no attempt to hail cigarettes, but the ingenious man would have found some alternative, just like the present selling of the cheap online discount cigarettes.
